This vertical lure is jerked sharply with the rod and then dropped back down in a controlled manner. During the upward movement, the wide belly creates a high-frequency vibration that can be felt throughout the rod. In the sinking phase, the vertical jig wobbles enticingly downward. The high-frequency vibration when jigging is what makes this lure so irresistible to catfish. Catfish are often attracted from a great distance and provoked to strike.
