Knee-friendly: The new active pedal Freedom starts with the foot. Previous studies have shown that allowing axial rotation of 10° in clipless pedals can reduce the potential for overload injuries in the knees. This assumption was examined as part of a master's thesis, leading to the development of the 502 active system pedal for touring cyclists: the first active pedal on the market designed for a knee-friendly, ergonomic foot position. The SQlab 502 active pedal is the first city pedal with lateral freedom of movement while still providing good grip. Four different axle lengths ensure a physiologically natural foot position on the pedal, preventing unilateral strain—especially in cases of fibular head syndrome.
