Castelli Superleggera

Castelli has been pushing the boundaries of lightweight construction in bib shorts since 2011, but have reached the limits of durability. Castelli had to take a step back and find a better way. They analyzed what really matters: the shorts must hold the seat pad securely in place with as little fabric (i.e. weight) as possible, but of course without becoming see-through. They must survive at least a full season of hard (racing) use. That's why Castelli has developed a brand new material, a fabric that already saves 30% in weight compared to knitted fabric, with the same support and visibility. Then Castelli worked with the world's leading factory to design a gradient fabric that gets lighter and lighter as the length of the leg increases, with the final piece weighing only 90 g/m 2 compared to normal short fabric, which weighs around 220 g/m 2. This fabric is insanely light, but retains a reasonable amount of durability and excellent abrasion resistance, at least against the saddle. Castelli doesn't guarantee against unplanned slipping over the asphalt. Note that while the shorts only save 48 grams when drying, they also absorb about 30% less moisture when sweating. So if you sweat your way up to Alpe d'Huez, you'll save as much as 150 grams. These shorts don't compromise on comfort.
