Castelli offers the best set in the test for use in high temperatures. The jersey is light and well ventilated. The outstanding shorts offer a lot for their unfortunately quite high price.
Since 2011, Castelli has pushed the boundaries of lightweight construction in bib shorts, but they have encountered limits in durability. Castelli had to take a step back and find a better way. They analyzed what really matters: the shorts must securely hold the seat pad in place with minimal fabric use (and therefore weight), but of course, without becoming see-through. They must withstand at least a full season of tough (race) use. That’s why Castelli developed a brand-new material, a fabric that saves 30% weight compared to knit while providing the same support and opacity. Then, Castelli collaborated with the world’s leading factory to create a gradient fabric that becomes lighter as the length of the leg increases, with the final part weighing only 90 g/m² compared to standard short fabric, which weighs about 220 g/m². This fabric is incredibly light but maintains adequate durability and excellent abrasion resistance, at least against the saddle. Castelli does not guarantee against unintended sliding on asphalt. Note that while the shorts save only 48 grams when dry, they also absorb about 30% less moisture when sweating. So, as you sweat your way up Alpe d'Huez, you can save up to 150 grams. These shorts make no compromises on comfort. The top seat pad Progetto X2 Air Seamless was used, along with the spectacularly striped mesh straps from the Free Aero Race 4 Bibshort and a flat, elastic woven leg gripper to keep everything in place. Highlights: Elastic gradient material, up to 50% lighter with improved durability, minimalist strap construction made of mesh material strips, integrated leg grippers with external Lycra, embossed logos, heat transfer scorpion logo, Progetto X2 Air Seamless seat pad.
