Castelli Cold Days 2nd Layer

Maximal insulation and moisture management for cold rides, as an intermediate layer between a base layer and a jacket.

The Polartec® Alpha® material ensures excellent insulation – soft, elastic, and lightweight. A few years ago, we thought it would be perfect for base layers, but it felt rather damp and clammy on the skin. However, when we were looking for more warmth for our gravel tours in subzero temperatures, we tried the Alpha® prototypes as a second layer over a Prosecco base layer – and thus arrived at the perfect combination for cold rides. We refined the details and perfected this second layer for cold days. We equipped it with a half-length zipper so that it doesn't add too much bulk around the stomach area. And we placed the zipper slightly off-center to avoid multiple zippers meeting at the neck. We kept the fit close to the body, so you have the option to tuck it into your tights or wear it over them, just as we do. We also found that it works excellently over a Flanders, Bandito, Miracolo, or Seamless base layer.
