The Polartec® Alpha® material provides excellent insulation—soft, stretchy, and lightweight. A few years ago, we thought it would be great for base layers, but it felt rather damp and clammy against the skin. However, when we were looking for more warmth protection for our gravel tours in sub-zero temperatures, we tested the Alpha® prototypes as a second layer over a Prosecco base layer and discovered the perfect combination for rides in the cold. We worked on the details and perfected this second layer for chilly days. It features a half-length zipper to avoid bulk around the stomach area. The zipper is placed slightly off-center to prevent multiple zippers from meeting at the neck. The fit is close to the body, allowing you the option to tuck it into your tights or wear it over, as we do. We also found that it works excellently over a Flanders, Bandito, Miracolo, or Seamless base layer.
