Question about Tristar Ac-5477
What happens if the outer hose is not installed? Does the warm air simply stay in the room (=less effect of the air conditioner) or does it also affect the unit (do defects occur?) I have no way of opening the window or even making a fixed installation.

That is exactly how it is. If there is no exhaust hose through a window or door to the outside possible, the circulation of the cold air with the warm air circulation in the room is a zero-sum game. The effect would then be like a fan that only increases the air flow, but cannot lower the room temperature.
A window kit is available as an additional item. The installation is very easy and the kit prevents insects and other animals from entering. And the warm exhaust air hose is also better fixed to the outside.
