Does anyone know whether a fridge can be placed on top of the freezer? I can't find any information about this or the carrying capacity of the appliance in the operating instructions.

Yes, it is very stable.

Yes, it is possible. However, the upper cupboard must be secured to the wall. At least that's how we did it.
