Yes, if the stopper on the spout is folded down, it whistles. If it is not folded down, it does not whistle either. However, the construction is not sooo optimal, if there is a lot of water in the jug, it starts to bubble out through the spout about 1 second after the whistle. So never fill the jug too full.
