When buying a chopping board, the material is of particular importance. It is often assumed that a plastic board is more hygienic than wood. However, this is not the case. Wood contains tannic acids, which have a natural antibacterial effect, and it is more hygienic than any plastic board, as germs can survive there for a particularly long time. The wooden board therefore remains the first choice for cutting. When choosing wood, it is important to use wood that naturally has a higher acid content.

Bamboo has proven to be a very good material here. As bamboo is a hard material, it does not allow deep cuts where bacteria can accumulate. This also protects the knife blades. Thanks to the all-round juice groove, the board is particularly suitable for cutting fruit and vegetables. It prevents the escaping fruit or vegetable juice from watering down the salad or running onto the worktop and from there possibly onto the kitchen floor. After cutting, you can simply pour off the juice collected in this way.

Another advantage of bamboo is its sustainability, as it grows very quickly and does not need fertiliser to develop in the best possible way. Bamboo is also very resilient and naturally resistant to pests, so there is no need to use pesticides.
