Operation is via a gesture-enabled multi-touch display. Connection and communication is via LAN or WLAN, depending on the version. It features an integrated loudspeaker and an integrated microphone with echo cancellation.

The Gira G1 serves as a multifunctional room operating device, providing various functions or combinations of functions: home station video, KNX room operating device (including room temperature controller), or a combination of KNX room operating device (including room temperature controller) and home station video, or KNX room operating device (including room temperature controller), home station video, and integration of Internet services, or HomeServer Client.

As a KNX room control unit, it offers an intuitive user interface that can be adapted by the end user. System settings are protected via PIN code. It supports switching, push-buttons, dimming (relative and absolute), dimming (including RGB, RGBW, and Tunable White), blind and shutter control, value transmitter, and scene extension unit. It also includes a status display.
