Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial is a red wine from the Bodega Abadía Retuerta in V.T. Castilla y León. This wine is a blend of Tempranillo (75%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%), and Syrah (10%).
The grapes for Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial come from vineyards in the municipality of Sardón de Duero in Valladolid. The estate, owned by the winery, bears the same name: Abadía Retuerta. The vines grow at an altitude of 850 meters above sea level and have an average age of 20 years.
The climate is mainly continental, with cold winters and warm summers. The harvest is carried out evenly and selectively, with only the highest quality grapes being chosen. After transporting the grapes to the winery, the first fermentation process takes place in small stainless steel tanks. The subsequent malolactic fermentation of Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial also occurs in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine ages for about 16 months in barrels made of French and American oak before being bottled.
