Trip into the past

The social, cultural and political influence of Augusta Raurica, the capital of the Rurakian colony of Rome, extended far beyond the present cantonal and national borders. We would now like to extend and pay tribute to this radiant power, which - as a tourist destination and archaeological research centre - still exists today in the region of north-western Switzerland, throughout Switzerland and internationally, in a separate volume. It is not primarily the architectural monuments of Augst and Kaiseraugst that will be described and discussed again, but rather various aspects of everyday Roman life in and around the city, the sphere of influence of the urban centre and its rise and fall will be presented in a modern thematic context. As with the other volumes in the series Excursion into the Past, the book and app guide readers to the sights and places in and around Augusta Raurica that are of historical interest.
