Product details

The cultural history of Canton Zug is long and rich. It took about 16,000 years from the immigration of the first hunter-gatherers at the end of the Ice Age to the construction of the first terraced house settlement in Switzerland. In between are lakeside villages of the Neolithic and Bronze Age. Settlements and cemeteries date back to the Celts, Romans and Alemanni. Castles, towns and villages were built in the Middle Ages. Churches and chapels were richly decorated in the Baroque period. And the first railroad lines and industrial areas shaped the 19th century. The stock of architectural monuments and archaeological finds is diverse, even though it has been exposed to an above-average building boom for decades and has been decimated by it. It gives the diverse cultural landscape at the transition from the Swiss Plateau to the Pre-Alps a historical dimension and is part of the distinctive identity.
