The book provides a comprehensive overview from the physical fundamentals to the understanding of the steady-state and dynamic operating behavior of electrical machines and drives. Special attention is given to current motor developments. The basics of electrical machines are discussed in detail based on the three fundamental types: asynchronous machines, synchronous machines, and direct current machines. Construction designs are explained, and the steady-state operating behavior is derived. Alongside the illustrative description using modern machines, the mathematically grounded principles are developed from the very beginning. The focus is deliberately placed on three-phase technology, as it increasingly displaces classical direct current technology into niche areas. Current motor developments, especially in connection with inverter feeding, are discussed in detail.
