Eine Handvoll Anekdoten

In impressions, leaps, and excursions, we follow the stories of M., the adventures of someone who knew how to evade the demands of history: family ties and first love, early enthusiasm for reading and media addiction, every kind of evasive maneuver against false authority, a failed explosives attempt, desertion, black market dealings, and then the joy of academic freedom in study – even beyond Pisa and Bologna: whether it was Jesuit-influenced Marx exercises or, under the pretense of knowing Ancient Greek, a mocha seminar in a professor's salon, a bit of linguistics or psychiatry – here he was left in peace. But memory is a fragmentary and unreliable advisor. Therefore, the author takes the liberty of directing and collaging, assembling motifs, images, and anecdotes into an opus incertum. This is what the ancient Romans called a specific type of their wall construction: an unsecured work.
