Eine Handvoll Anekdoten

One's own date of birth is hard to shake off. M. carries it with him. The first twenty years are a baggage that a person can never get rid of. But memory is a fragmentary and unreliable guide. Therefore, the author takes the liberty of directing and collaging, combining motifs, images, and anecdotes into an opus incertum. This is what the ancient Romans called a specific type of their wall construction: an unsecured work. In impressions, leaps, and digressions, we follow the stories of M., the adventures of someone who knew how to evade the demands of history: family ties and first love, early reading enthusiasm and media addiction, all kinds of evasive maneuvers against false authority, a failed attempt at explosives, desertion, black market dealings, and then the joy of academic freedom in studies - even beyond Pisa and Bologna.
