Product details

With this edition, "The Children of Húrin" is available for the first time as an independent and closed book, just as J. R. R. Tolkien had in mind.
The friends of Tolkien's work will be enriched by a fascinating reading experience.
A genuine piece of Tolkien narrative art, which deals with mysterious mythical creatures and terribly evil powers, with friendship and loyalty - the very motives that also determine the "Lord of the Rings".
"The Children of Húrin" is set in the First Age of Middle-earth, even before the great epic poem of the rings. The evil power of Morgoth continues to spread to Beleriand. Hordes of orcs and the terrible dragon Glaurung threaten its inhabitants... While Húrin is held captive by Morgoth, his brave son Túrin takes up the fight against evil ...
The independent publication of this book was one of the most important projects for Tolkien. However, his wish to publish the story in which the brave Túrin fights against the terrible power of Morgoth as a single volume remained unfulfilled during his lifetime.
Tolkien felt a special affinity with the tragic hero Túrin.
"The Children of Húrin" in its final form is the most important narrative work from Middle-earth after the conclusion of the "Lord of the Rings".
Christopher Tolkien, who published "News from Middle-earth" and "The Silmarillion" as early as the 1980s, in which various parts and readings with many notes and appendices are included, has now re-compiled and supplemented the story as a reading edition without breaks and without philological-editorial appendix - exactly as it corresponds to his father's legacy.
