Product details

For all those longing to return to Middle-earth: A true piece of Tolkien's narrative art. In this tale of Túrin's struggle against the evil forces of Morgoth, the entire diversity of the Tolkien universe unfolds once again. Featuring the original color illustrations and many drawings by Alan Lee. "The Children of Húrin" is set in the First Age of Middle-earth, long before the great epic of the Ring. The evil power of Morgoth is spreading further into Beleriand. Hordes of orcs and the terrible dragon Glaurung threaten its inhabitants. While Húrin is held captive by Morgoth, his brave son Túrin takes up the fight against evil. The independent publication of this book was one of Tolkien's most important projects. However, his wish to publish the story of the brave Túrin's battle against the terrible power of Morgoth as a standalone volume remained unfulfilled during his lifetime. Tolkien felt a particular kinship with the tragic hero Túrin. "The Children of Húrin" in its final form is the most significant narrative work from Middle-earth after the completion of "The Lord of the Rings." Christopher Tolkien, who already published "The History of Middle-earth" and "The Silmarillion" in the 1980s, has now reassembled and supplemented the story as a reading edition, without breaks and without a philological-editorial appendix - just as it corresponds to his father's legacy.
