• By preventing struvite stones: a low protein content and an appropriate amount of magnesium and phosphorus prevent the (re)formation of struvite stones.

• By dissolving struvite stones: The addition of methionine optimises the pH value of the urine (6.2-6.5). Acidified urine can dissolve existing struvite stones.
