Hello together Thought wine bottles should preferably lie horizontally for optimal storage. Why do the bottles here lie with the bottle head lower/at an angle? Is this good for the wine and its cork? Thanks for the answer(s). LG
Hello (we have the shelf)
It is better when the wine is lying down, the cork should always remain moist so that it does not dry out and the wine can be damaged. It doesn't matter whether the wine is lying diagonally downwards or at a nice 90° angle, as the cork remains moist in both cases. The rack is stable (especially when it is full) and looks okay and is very easy to assemble....
My knowledge: According to a wine saleswoman from a wine shop in Bern, wine bottles may even be stored upright for a maximum of 3 months. (For bottles with plastic corks, glass stoppers or screw caps, the storage (whether horizontal or vertical) is irrelevant.
I don't know why the bottles lie at an angle to the head on the rack mentioned. I can only speculate. Either they are more stable, or yes because of the cork.
