Starting in the 1930s – and especially during the post-war period – Venini & Co. played a leading role in revitalizing the Italian high-end glass industry, combining innovative modernist designers with centuries-old glassmakers on the island of Venice, paired with Murano artisans in the workshop. While the company's founder, Paolo Venini (1895–1959), was himself a talented glassware designer, his true genius lay in inviting visionary Italian and international designers into Murano's sacred studio to create Venini pieces.
