Poster van Ruisdael - The windmill of Wijk near Duurstede
The watercolor shows an old mill standing by a small lake. In the background, several roofs can be seen, which gives the impression that the mill stands at the gates of a small town. A fantastic painting, of the old picturesque Holland.
Jacob van Ruisdael was an acclaimed painter from the Netherlands who lived until the end of the 17th century. Besides his profession as a doctor, he liked to travel around Holland and thus conjured up dozens of beautiful motifs on his canvas. His works are exhibited today in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Since its reopening in 2013, the Rijksmuseum has housed an extensive collection of paintings from the Dutch Golden Age, as well as various Asian art objects and artifacts.
