Since the discovery of coffee in the Orient, the willingness to consume this potent brew spread very slowly across European regions. The first contacts with coffee occurred in the 15th century through European scholars. However, it wasn't until the late 17th century that the first Viennese coffee house opened in Austria. This was followed by the opening of French "cafés" in Paris and many other coffee houses in Hamburg.

Thanks to this long tradition, we can enjoy many different coffee drinks today. In addition to the typical "Viennese coffee," there are Italian varieties such as "Café Latte," "Latte Macchiato," and the small pick-me-up "Espresso."
