What to look out for when purchasing envelopes?

The norm provides a selection of possible formats for letter mail. This facilitates automated logistics, sorting and distribution of envelopes by the post office.

The most common formats for sending important documents, such as contracts, certificates and deeds, are used in DIN C4 envelopes.
DIN C5/6 and DIN C6/5 envelopes are used for business correspondence on standard DIN A4 paper. This requires folding the DIN A4 format twice horizontally to fit inside.

While the opening of an envelope is on the long side, the opening of a mailing envelope is on the short side. more
