Question about Synology DS224+

I'm a complete beginner when it comes to NAS, but I've read that Synology only accepts its own HDDs for the DS225+. Is it therefore still worth buying a DS224+ or switching to an Ugreen NASync DXP2800? I am considering installing a maximum of 2x 8TB. Basically, my application is about data backup (most of it is photos) and the possibility that other club members can access a shared folder from outside. Thank you for your feedback!

Hi Youyi,

I'm using the DS224+ with Western Digital drives without a problem. You can use any standard drive you want, but it's recommended to stick with drives designed for usage in NAS applications (like the WD Red Plus).

Good luck!

Hello Youyi

Basically, I would use a DS224+ again if necessary.
I have had bad experiences with the HD from WD. (2 x 8TB)
One day both HD's stopped working. The storage pool1 on both drives was no longer available.
Although the HDs are still under warranty, I have decided not to replace them. (Data protection)
I got two new ones from Seagate and am satisfied.
