1. Dunlop Dookie Drive

The guitar sound of Billie Joe Armstrong on Green Day's groundbreaking album Dookie was dirty and powerful, with the perfect articulation to express the musicality of his fast, melodic riffs. He achieved this sound by sending his signal through two heavily modified amplifiers – one with a lot of gain and the other with a well-defined midrange. When it came time to mix the record, the band combined the two signals in different ratios to capture the mood of each track. The MXR Dookie Drive encapsulates the tones of these amplifiers in a single pedal, allowing you to dial in your own variations of that famous Dookie sound. We borrowed his amplifiers so the MXR team could carefully analyze all the tonal qualities that make them sound so good. After extensive analysis and A/B testing, our engineers recreated the amplifiers from scratch in circuit form and integrated them into a single enclosure. The high gain and crunch gain sections each have their own knobs, while you can blend them just like Green Day did in the studio using the blend knob. If you want a bit more scoop in the midrange of the overall output signal, simply press the scoop switch. The MXR Dookie Drive is not just for Green Day fans – this absolutely unique pedal offers a complete harmonic palette of overdriven tones for a playing experience full of depth and dimension. This special edition features a brand new finish to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dookie's monumental release in 1994.

4. Dunlop MXR M281

The MXR Thump Bass Preamp is a sound-enhancing, signal-boosting, and overall groove-improving machine. The idea for this pedal arose when the MXR design team and our in-house bassists discovered that the sonic secret sauce of the Echoplex preamp harmonizes just as deliciously with bass as it does with guitar. Based on this circuit, the MXR team added a simple yet effective tone-shaping interface that allows you to dial in the perfect bass sound for both stage and studio. It’s easy to create the desired sound. The Echoplex preamp circuit prepares your signal with a carefully balanced EQ profile, and with the tone controls of this pedal, you can further refine it. The treble and bass controls boost or cut frequencies at 4 kHz and 40 Hz, respectively, while the mid control adjusts the mids, as set by the frequency control, from 250 Hz to 1 kHz. This frequency range has been selected to provide players with maximum flexibility and minimal effort in refining their bass signal. Whether you want to spice up a solo, boost your signal in a live mix, or add more edge to the sound of a passive bass, the Thump Bass Preamp offers incredible versatility in an MXR mini housing.
