These unique strings from the Classic S series of the Austrian string manufacturer offer a sound and feel that lies precisely between steel and nylon strings. Their tension can be compared to a "hard" tension for classical guitars. Since these strings are thinner, the Thomastik KR116 string set facilitates the transition from an electric/steel-string guitar to a classical guitar.

In contrast to the KF110 from the same series, Thomastik-Infeld's KR116 Classic S strings feature a woven rope core. This hybrid core consists of nylon fibers and a woven steel strand. This so-called rope core provides the characteristic nylon string sound with extra-long sustain and articulation. The three bass strings have a flat winding made of silver-plated copper, while the three treble strings have nylon tape windings. This tapewound construction makes the string slightly thicker than a traditional steel guitar string, giving it a feel more akin to that of a nylon-string guitar.
