The Samsung PM981a in M.2 format is connected via PCI-Express 3.0 with 4 data lanes. The classic 2.5-inch format is thus outdated, as its relatively slow SATA 6G interface, due to a significant bandwidth limitation (maximum net data rate of around 550 MB/s), can no longer keep up with the explosive performance increase of modern SSDs.
