I was looking for a printer that has a good document feeder, prints economically and quickly and can be configured well. I was not disappointed with the HP Officejet Pro 8730, at least not with the second model, the first one was dead on arrival and I had to go to Digitec to exchange the device. The replacement arrived by post the next day, tip-top service.
At first I was afraid that the device would be more bulky than the 8600, but the pictures are a little deceptive. I think it's great that HP has abandoned these stupid piano lacquer surfaces, which look great for two minutes and then are just ugly because they magically attract dust and fingerprints. I find the neutral white a real step forward (back).
The device can be adapted to the user's needs in great detail via the web frontend. Laymen might be a little overwhelmed, but the target group is more power users or small workgroups. I enjoyed the configuration.
Only the configuration of the energy-saving plan seems to be faulty: If you want to put the printer to sleep overnight, for example, it complains after the timed wake-up that it has been disconnected from the power supply without being shut down and that this can damage the print head. I am hoping for an update from HP.

Almost exactly 2 years after buying this printer, the scanner started smudging text documents. I had bought an extended warranty, but now realise that such a warranty is pretty useless. If you don't have the original box, you have to take the printer to a Digitrec showroom where it is pushed for repair for an uncertain amount of time and in the meantime you have no printer. Since you can buy a new printer for less than CHF 60, I don't see the point in buying a more expensive one, much less buying the extended warranty.
Update April 30: I bought a cheaper new HP printer and it had the same problem with the scanner. After several hours of trying different solutions, I decided to just reinstall the HP Smart App and that solved the problems. Unfortunately, this solution was nowhere to be found on the HP support website.
