Product details

The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo turntable focuses on the core aspects that make a turntable great. Technically correct design - high quality materials - handmade in the EU. This turntable lasts for eternity. Pro-Ject has used its technology and experience from the past and also tried to incorporate damping techniques from high-end turntables into the Debut Carbon EVO. With an eye on more advanced TPE damping and high-mass sandwich construction, they were able to develop this innovative solution. The Debut Carbon Evo not only looks good, but also inspires with a perfect posture. Three height-adjustable solid metal feet are used to ensure level positioning on any surface. With three feet, Pro-Ject was able to increase stability on uneven surfaces, as a perfectly level turntable is essential for true high-end sound. As well as being able to change the playback speed effortlessly at the touch of a button, it is electronically controlled with the utmost precision, resulting in the most accurate and stable speeds. Pro-Ject's previous turntable was already heavier than all the others, but a metal turntable also has a disadvantage: resonances. The TPE technology (thermoplastic elastomer) now helps to dampen these resonances completely and also increases the weight to 1.7 kilograms. Since the TPE is mounted on an outer ring, the kinetic energy also creates a flywheel effect. The result is even quieter operation with less synchronisation fluctuation. The speed control has been placed on the bottom of the turntable to maintain the clean look for which the Debut is so well known. You won't find a switch, LED or print on the top of the turntable to maintain the luxurious aesthetic.

The Pro-Ject convinces with clean workmanship, a very quiet motor and a carbon fibre tonearm with Ortofon cartridge. The sound is finely differentiated.

Purist design. Powerful sound. Manual operation, belt drive. Inconvenient: The playback speed can only be set blindly, for shellac records you have to change the drive belt. Untypical anti-skating construction. Sensitive to impact sound.

With the Debut Carbon EVO, Pro-Ject delivers a perfect turntable in an extremely attractive price range. For 500 euros, more analogue sound and a better music experience is currently unimaginable for us. Moreover, it is very beginner-friendly and thus ideally suited for vinyl lovers of the new generation. But this record player will also surprise connoisseurs 100 per cent.

The emperor, the super-seller, gets new clothes. That could go wrong. But Pro-Ject shows its mastery. This is a great record player for a humane price. Nowhere a weakness. Even the difficult choice of the right cartridge can be called a success. Convincing in all values.

Even chronic complainers have to search a long time before they find something to criticise about the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo. What is listed under minus in the audiogram is irrelevant for normal music listening. Who jumps around in front of the player or pokes him indecently? For me, the DCE is definitely one of the best turntables in its price class.
