Product details
A conventional electrical signal in a copper cable is disrupted by electromagnetic fluctuations. In contrast, optical fiber cables offer better protection against interference and are also more secure against eavesdropping. Additionally, the low attenuation of optical cables allows for long-distance transmission. The fiber optic cable consists of three layers. The core of the optical medium has a diameter of 50 µm and is made of glass, which transmits the information. It is surrounded by a cladding with a diameter of 125 µm that reflects stray light. The outer coating provides protection against mechanical damage and is made of plastic.
The LC connector is a high-performance fiber optic connector for single-mode and multi-mode applications, featuring an insertion loss of only 0.1 dB and a return loss of 55 dB. The design of the LC connector is based on a single-fiber ceramic ferrule with a diameter of 1.25 millimeters for a fiber optic cable. The OM designation for a fiber optic cable defines the quality class of a multimode fiber optic cable. The classification distinguishes four classes (OM1 to OM4). The differentiation is based on the level of optical attenuation and the possible transmission rate and distance.
