When a side table becomes a USB hub

Electrical cables spoil the look. The "My Spot" side table now promises a remedy. It has an integrated USB port.

To hide cables, I'm always looking for new storage solutions. During my last search, I came across a design from this year that surprised me.

The "My Spot" coffee table from Umage offers not just one shelf, but two. Your coffee cup or flower pot will look good on the top one and your gadgets on the bottom one. Why not on the top tabletop? Because there is a USB port underneath it. Thanks to it, you can place and charge your smartphone on the lower surface. The power supply is provided by a cable that runs through one of the table legs. It is encased in the natural wood and made invisible. The connection only comes out again at the end of the leg so that you can pull it to a socket. You can choose between solid oak or stained oak for the material. Both variants are available in combination with brass details.

The smart design is suitable as a side table on which smartphones are often charged overnight. With its round shape, it also fits into niches and, thanks to its height of 59 cm, can be placed next to sofas with armrests.

Jonas Søndergaard's design combines modern and classic Scandinavian design and meets the needs of today's society. The "My Spot" coffee table is not the only piece of furniture that the designer from Copenhagen has created for the manufacturer Umage. From wardrobes to modular tables: They are all aimed at a target group that appreciates modular elements and is surrounded by technology.
