It's all about style: a snowboard attached to a rope and carabiners becomes a practical shelf, bringing a sporty touch to the kitchen, bathroom or bedroom.

We'll show you step-by-step how to transform your old snowboard, upcycling it - in other words, giving value back to an object and making it, yourself, a focal point for your home in just a few simple steps. Making your own furniture has never been so easy! Create your own shelf and add a personal touch to your furniture, while helping to protect the planet. Recycling is good, upcycling is better!

If you don't have a snowboard, you can also use another board. Let your imagination run wild!

Project information

Level of difficulty: easy

Duration: approx. 1 hour

Materials

  • old snowboard
  • 3.5mm braided rope with approx. 9mm diameter
  • 2 carabiners
  • 2 metal gussets
  • 2 metal rings with a diameter of approx. 30mm

  • Pencil for marking

Suitable tools

Step 1 - sanding the edges

Clean the snowboard and sand the edges. Bosch's PSM Primo multi-sander lends itself perfectly to the task.

On the back of the board, mark 4 holes for hanging. Transfer the same distances to the wall and mark where to drill.

Step 2 - drilling the holes

With a drill/driver, drill the holes in the board. Warning: if your snowboard has a metal body, use a metal drill!

Choose the ideal height for your shelf and secure the rope to the snowboard with a knot.

Step 3 - fitting the fastener

For the wall holes, change the drill bit on the screwdriver, and go for a stone drill bit. Drill the holes and drive in the wall plugs.

Then screw the metal gussets to the wall. The Bosch IXO V cordless screwdriver, for example, lends itself perfectly to this use. Clip the carabiners onto the loops.

Step 4 - hanging the shelf

Finally, thread the ropes through the carabiners and voila! Your shelf is ready!

Finished - You've turned your old snowboard into a unique piece of furniture!!

Discovering foreign countries and cultures and tasting coffee or other delicacies is what I enjoy most when I travel. My home is decorated with little gems I find in thrift shops and at flea markets. When I’m having one of my big DIY moments, my creativity is unleashed. Both the mountains and the seaside restore my inner balance. With a snowboard or surfboard under my feet, I’m happy.
