Hilary Swank with Netflix, the return of the demonic clown Pennywise and Judy Garland’s tragic life story. This week’s notable trailers.

The sixth episode of season eight of «Game of Thrones» will mark the end of an era which has gone done in TV history. Hilary Swank’s «I Am Mother» was screened at the Sundance Film Festival 2019, after which its distribution rights were sold to Netflix. The devilish Pennywise is back in «It Chapter Two» and Judy Garland is finally getting the honour in Hollywood she deserved a long time ago. Finally: Zack Snyder’s «Watchmen» movie is getting a sequel – as a series.

Loqueesha

The trailer is horrible, but we can’t look away. Ta-dah! The trainwreck of the week: «Loqueesha». It’s about a white man dressing up as a black Latina woman and having fun spouting out racist stereotypes on his radio show for laughs. This film does absolutely nothing right. Not even its trailer. In an anonymous Reddit post, writer, director and lead actor Jeremy Saville claims to have recognised the movie’s flaws and reportedly has a solution at the ready: the parts spoken by Loqueesha will be played by a black female voice actor. This solves the movie’s smallest problem.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: Unknown, hopefully never

I am Mother

A nameless teenage girl (Clara Rugaard) is the first in a generation of humans to be raised by a robot «Mother» (Rose Byrne) in a fallout bunker. Suddenly, she meets a stranger (Hilary Swank) who isn’t supposed to be alive. After all: humans have all long-since died out in this dystopian future.

Start date: 7/6/2019, Netflix

It Chapter Two

There’s a clown in Derry, Maine that doesn’t make kids laugh, but eats them instead. Every 27 years. Almost three decades after the events of the first movie, the second instalment in the «It» series reunites us with the members of the «Losers Club» – all grown up by now. Their goal: to defeat this personified evil from the sewers once and for all.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: 5/9/2019

Judy

Judy Garland (Renée Zellweger) was one of the brightest stars to ever shine in Hollywood. She became famous in the 1939 musical hit «The Wizard of Oz», where a 16-year old Judy sang the original version of «Somewhere Over the Rainbow». But Hollywood is ruthless, and Garland’s story would end in tragedy.

Release date in Swiss cinemas: Autumn of 2019

Watchmen

Tick tock. HBO’s adaptation of the «Watchmen» comic is coming. The series is set about 30 years after the dark conclusion of Zack Snyder’s movie version – in the present. Just like Alan Moore’s original comic, this series has been influenced by real political events and figures. However, it shows a slightly altered reality, one in which mighty superheroes are involved – and not always in a good way.

Start: Autumn of 2019, HBO

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! But I'm also about curling up in an armchair with books about ugly intrigue and sinister kingkillers. Being an avid cinema-goer, I’ve been known to rave about film scores for hours on end. I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
