Three Lego sets that make great Christmas presents

Want to gift Lego this year, but preferably not the Death Star, which costs as much as a weekend trip to Barcelona? Here are three alternative sets released in 2025. There’s one for smaller budgets, one for people with a heart and one for individuals who think their shelf’s a gallery. Check them out in the video above. I like Lego. Not every set, but the ones that are easy to build and end up looking like something you want to display. For this post, I’ve picked three new Lego sets that are very different, but all have one thing in common: they’re great to give this Christmas.

I know, because I built them all. No press photos, no marketing blurb. Just actual building times and my honest opinion.

Happy plants (10349)

This set gives off student apartment vibes. The type with three houseplants and an air purifier. But it’s less complicated than that. These small potted plants even have mini roots and can be repotted. Nobody actually needs these, but they’re fun.

Assembling takes about 20 minutes. The set’s ideal as a small gift or for people who enjoy doing something with their hands without having to invest several hours in a project. Rumour has it that a similar set will be released next year. If you start now, there’s a good chance you’ll accidentally become a collector.

Wall-E and Eve (43279)

To me, Wall-E is one of the most emotional Pixar movies ever. This set ties into that atmosphere. The little robot looks surprisingly alive and will already win your heart when you’re unpacking it.

Construction time is around two hours. There are no stickers, but very clear construction steps and heaps of charming details. The iconic shoe with the plant is included, too. And if you don’t whisper «Eeeevve» quietly at least once during assembly, you probably have a heart of stone.

This set is perfect for people who like Pixar or are simply looking for a display model that doesn’t look like a toy.

Neuschwanstein Castle (21063)

This is the set for individuals who take Lego building very seriously. The ones who go all in, sort their bricks and want to display results that look like a model. This would work on a bookshelf that’s sorted alphabetically or might appeal to people who appreciate architecture but don’t have time to get a master’s degree.

Construction time is about eight hours. It involves placing hundreds of small windows one by one. This activity becomes very meditative a some stage. What’s more, the trees can be converted into an autumn version. An unnecessary but beautiful detail. This set is a gift for people with patience, a sense of precision and enough space in their living room.
