Esports pros respond to hot takes and nasty comments about their games
by Domagoj Belancic
He wears a white mask and calls himself "The Phantom". But he can't sing opera any more than he can play "Call of Duty Warzone". Because you have chosen him as a candidate for our boot camp, we can at least help him with the latter.
Some people voted themselves into the pot in our bootcamp competition, others were chosen by friends or their Twitch community. This includes "The Phantom". The computer science student collected the most votes and can now look forward to a private training session with experienced eSports player Reto Canova.
The Phantom is not inexperienced with the shooter genre. Although "Warzone" is new territory for him, he is a keen player of "DayZ", "PUBG" and "Rainbow Six Siege". In Ubisoft's tactical shooter, he even made it to the quarter-finals at the last digitec Playground. And that's despite the fact that he's confident in his aim, but not necessarily in his tactical approach. "The Phantom" seems to have a flair for tournament games anyway, as he signed up for the upcoming "Warzone" tournament even before the bootcamp vote. The fact that he is now the chosen one for special training has "surprised and delighted him at the same time".
His gamer name came about by chance. He wanted to hide his face while streaming and was looking for a mask to do so. "I realised that it looked like the one from The Phantom of the Opera. I love this story and especially the music." From then on, he was known as "The Phantom" on Twitch.
"The Phantom" will next work out a training plan together with Reto. As soon as the first lesson is scheduled, which will also be streamed on our Twitch channel, I will provide an update.

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
