The Super Mario Bros. movie is coming to the cinema soon. The new trailer not only shows more of Chris Pratt's interpretation of the cult character. We finally get to see more of the world and the other characters.
After Pratt barely spoke more than two sentences in the first trailer, we finally get the full Mario droning here. Let's-a-go!
The trailer is a feast for fans. Especially visually. No surprise: after all, the animated film is produced by the US "Illumination" studio. This studio is responsible for the "Despicable Me" and "Minions" series, among others.
Next scene: the evil Bowser squeezes Mario's younger brother Luigi (Charlie Day). Bowser wants to rule the world. But apparently a human with a moustache and a cap is putting a spoke in his wheel. Is Mario something like the chosen one?
Then the trailer throws around all sorts of little Super Mario allusions at a staccato pace. Like flying puffer fish. Tanooki Mario. Fire plants. Lots of Yoshis in all colours of the rainbow. Speaking of which: the Rainbow Road from Mario Kart also makes an appearance! Now, at the latest, I'm fully hyped, old, foolish Mario Kart maniac.
Titelbild: Nintendo & Illumination EntertainmentI write about technology as if it were cinema, and about films as if they were real life. Between bits and blockbusters, I’m after stories that move people, not just generate clicks. And yes – sometimes I listen to film scores louder than I probably should.
From the latest iPhone to the return of 80s fashion. The editorial team will help you make sense of it all.
Show allIt was just over a month ago that the first "Super Mario" teaser sent the internet into a tizzy. There really wasn't much to see. Except for Bowser, voiced by Jack Black. But the fan community was much more eager to hear Chris Pratt's voice for Mario. Especially since Pratt had announced months earlier that his Mario voice would be "unlike anything you've ever heard before".
At the very beginning of the trailer, Mario charges at the iconic gorilla Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen). Interesting: As in Donkey Kong's first game appearance in 1981, this happens at a dizzying height and on a steel beam. My theory: Mario becomes a prisoner during his adventure in the Mushroom Kingdom and has to defeat the undisputed champion to get free again. Only then is he allowed to continue his journey together with Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Toad (Keegan-Michael Key), who are only allowed to watch in said scene
.

It's possible. Even the first teaser suggested that Mario is not from the Mushroom Kingdom (Peach: "There's a huge universe out there") and just stumbled in by accident. Now the trailer even shows a kind of boot camp that is supposed to prepare the Italian plumber for the upcoming adventure. The highlight: the boot camp is structured like a classic Mario level in a Super Nintendo game. Mario trains for the speed run (okay, maybe not the speed run) and fails miserably. Delightful!

Good thing the theatrical release isn't that long away: 7 April 2023 is the US theatrical release date. In our country, it will be released on 23 March 2023. And if that's not enough, the official Twitter channel for the film has new character posters. I can't wait: "Uahuuuuu!"
