With the handy BeamO you should be able to keep an eye on your health and that of your family. The multiscanner is now available in our shop.

The manufacturer Withings has dedicated itself entirely to health. After smartwatches and blood pressure monitors, the BeamO 4-in-1 scanner is the latest product that I would like to introduce to you. The device can

  • measure your temperature,
  • generate an ECG,
  • record breath sounds and
  • determine the oxygen content of the blood

The BeamO comes in a slim housing with dimensions of 3.7 × 1.9 × 13.6 centimetres and a weight of 80 grams. A 1.9-inch colour screen with LCD technology and a resolution of 170 × 320 pixels simplifies operation. It shows, for example, whether you are holding the device correctly during a measurement or where you need to place it.

Temperature measurement with automatic detection

The integrated thermometer uses a «Gen2» temperature sensor. The measurement is contactless via infrared. This is particularly helpful for parents of small, fidgety children. You hold the device, which is about the size of a highlighter pen, at the side above the eyebrow and then slowly move it towards the ears. According to the manufacturer, the BeamO
then identifies the temporal artery and measures the body temperature.

The device is powered by an integrated battery which, according to Withings, has a battery life of eight months. Charging takes place via USB-C and takes around one hour. Bluetooth Low Energy and Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz are available for data transmission.

EKG function for heart monitoring

The BeamO can record an electrocardiogram and measure the heart rate using two stainless steel electrodes. After just 30 seconds, rhythm disturbances that may indicate atrial fibrillation can be detected.

I have been wearing a Withings smartwatch for many years and can assure you that the ECG detection is sophisticated and works. However, if you have the feeling that something is wrong with your circulation, the ECG function is no substitute for a visit to the doctor. This is because the 1-channel ECG does not recognise all heart conditions.

Optional Withings offers a «Cardio Check-up» service, where certified cardiologists analyse the ECG recordings within 24 hours. This service is part of the paid subscription. However, the device also works without a plan.

Digital stethoscope for respiratory examinations

A stethoscope function enables the cardiovascular system and breathing to be examined. Lung sounds can be recorded. This could be particularly helpful for respiratory diseases such as asthma or bronchitis. However, you will not receive any diagnoses here. The scanner only collects the data, which then needs to be analysed in a practice.

Pulse oximeter for oxygen measurement

Finally, a pulse oximeter is also integrated into the scanner. This measures the blood oxygen level. Low oxygen levels could indicate a lack of oxygen, which may be associated with COPD or other respiratory problems.
