Dyson is adding another styling appliance to its portfolio. With the "Airstrait", the technology company is launching a hair straightener that only works with air. And the best thing is: you can use it directly on your wet hair.
Dyson is launching a new styling tool on the market with the "Airstrait" hair straightener. The innovation is designed to straighten wet and dry hair without the use of heating plates - using only air. With the "Airstrait", you no longer need to blow-dry your hair before straightening it. According to the manufacturer, the appliance is suitable for all hair types and is designed to create natural-looking, voluminous styling without causing hair damage.

How the Dyson Airstrait works
Dyson has deliberately opted for a gentle airflow rather than hot air, because: According to Dyson engineer Sam Czerpak, heating plates that hit wet hair would literally boil the water out of the hair, which is harmful. Visually, the new product is reminiscent of a futuristic version of their "Corrale" straightening iron. It is powered by a small, powerful motor that chases up to 11.9 litres of air per second through the appliance at up to 106,000 revolutions per minute. Air nozzles are attached to both plates, which generate two downward-facing air wings at a high speed, which run towards each other at a 45-degree angle. The force generated by this smoothes the hair in a controlled manner.

The "Airstrait" is also equipped with intelligent temperature regulation, which measures the airflow temperature 16 times per second to protect the hair and regulates the heating elements accordingly. You can choose between two styling modes: wet and dry. There is also a cold setting to set the styling. In wet mode, you have three temperature settings to choose from: 80 °C, 110 °C and 140 °C. In dry mode, however, there are two: 120 °C and 140 °C as well as an additional boost. You can regulate the air flow using two speed settings (low flow and high flow). On top of this, there is also a cold shot and root drying mode for the hairline.
The Dyson "Airstrait" is not expected to be available in Switzerland until 2024. It is already available in the USA at a price of $499.99.
