Step by step to the right freezer

Are you looking for a freezer? Then you've come to the right place! With more than 100 freezers to choose from, the choice can be quite difficult. This little guide will help you find the right model faster.
As with refrigerators, freezers can be divided into «Einbau-» und «Freistehende Modelle» unterscheiden. Built-in appliances tend to be the exception for freezers, but can be integrated into existing kitchen units in XXL kitchens. Freestanding models can be placed anywhere. As soon as you know what type of freezer you want, the question of chest or cabinet, energy efficiency and volume comes up.
Choosing the right size
You can easily decide the size of freezer you need or the usable capacity based on the size of your household. For an average household, a size of 50 to 80 litres is sufficient. For an average family of four, a size of 200 to 300 litres is recommended. For families with hobby gardeners in the family, 100 to 200 litres more is recommended.

Freezer vs freezer
A freezer is good if you don't have much space in terms of width. Depending on the size, it can be integrated into other kitchen units. You have a better overview of your frozen food, as there are drawers in the cabinets that can be easily pulled out. If you have very little space, there are also so-called table-top freezers. They take up very little space and can be placed practically anywhere. They are particularly suitable as a supplement to an integrated freezer compartment in the fridge. If you have a lot of space, it is usually worth buying a chest freezer, even if you have a small household. Chests are usually cheaper to buy and generally require less electricity than equivalent cabinets. What's more, the temperature loss when opening the chest freezer is lower.

Energy consumption
When it comes to freezers or chest freezers, you will almost only find appliances with energy efficiency class A or higher. The various appliances differ between A, A+ and A++. Class A is marked green on the label, but A (without + or ++) is not really energy-efficient. If you opt for an A+ class appliance, you can save 25 per cent of energy, while A++ class appliances consume only half as much as an A energy efficiency class appliance.

With or without "noFrost"
With noFrost technology, the humidity in the freezer compartment is kept as low as possible. This prevents ice from forming and you no longer need to defrost the appliance. Although this technology means the appliance consumes more electricity, this is offset by the absence of defrosting processes.

Super freezing, shock freezing or quick freezing
Freezers are usually equipped with super or quick freeze switches. This switches the cold-generating machine to continuous operation to speed up the freezing process. The quick freeze switch is activated 3-4 hours before new frozen food is placed in the freezer. It then remains switched on until the goods are frozen. Just don't forget: If you forget to switch it off, your freezer will run at full speed, which not only causes high power consumption, but could also lead to a fault. For this reason, it makes sense to choose an appliance with an automatic freezer or automatic freezer function.
Automatic freezer or automatic freezer
This automatic system uses a sensor to register as soon as fresh frozen food is inserted. It automatically switches to continuous operation. Once the new goods are frozen through, the freezer automatically switches to normal operation.
Storage time in the event of a fault or power failure
The storage time in the event of a fault depends solely on the insulation of the appliance. If it is well insulated, it requires less energy and extends the duration. Good appliances can store frozen food for more than 24 hours without any loss of quality
