Orange, Yellow, Violet, Green, Blue, Black, Red, Turquoise, 10 x
It was my son's birthday recently. We designed a personalised crockery set together for his party. I'll show you how you can recreate this in just a few steps.
My son celebrated his fifth birthday on New Year's Eve. Having a birthday on New Year's Eve is both a curse and a blessing for him. On the one hand, the whole country is in a celebratory mood, but on the other, he has to share his big day with Mr Silvester. It has always been important for me to do something special with him on this day. This year, we ventured to create a personalised birthday tableware set.
You will need a cup and a plate of your choice as a "canvas". Different coloured porcelain pens are best for painting these. To mask off certain areas on the crockery, I opted for wash tape and scissors. You will also need a scouring paste and a Schwamm.

Depending on the manufacturer's instructions, the paint must be left to air dry for four to six hours.
It is therefore ideal to start crafting a day earlier.
Important: Before you paint the cup and plate, they must be cleaned. The porcelain surface must be free of dust and grease. To do this, rub the surface thoroughly with a wet sponge and the scouring paste and dry everything with a clean cloth.
Now it's your child's turn. They should decide on the motif (birthday number or symbol) that should remain visible in the confusion of colours. We decided on their new age with a circle around it. In this step, make sure that the washi tape sticks cleanly to the surface.
Before you start colouring, you need to shake the porcelain crayons well and pump them up. Then your child can start colouring. Let them decide for themselves which colours they want to use and how much they want to use. I know that we parents sometimes want to interfere with our children's creativity because it should look "nice". However, it is your child's birthday crockery. So give them enough freedom in the design and hold back.
After painting, the colour must dry for four to six hours, preferably overnight. Then you can peel off the washi tape.
Once the paint is dry and the tape has been removed, you can bake the crockery at 160 °C in a non-preheated oven. The process is complete after 30 minutes. Then switch off the oven and leave the plate or cup to cool in the oven. The birthday crockery is ready.
When we finished with our birthday crockery, I remembered those decorative porcelain plates from my grandma. Those things that hung on the wall and were just for decoration. It would be kind of cool if we created a new plate every year and then hung it on our living room wall. After a few birthdays, we'll have a colourful wall full of children's drawings. Let's see, maybe something will come of it. I'm definitely keeping the idea warm.
I'm more of a thinker than a doer. Yet I'm still always active: crafting, sewing, writing to-do lists, daydreaming, counting clouds, digging into soil, comforting my two little ones and collapsing into bed after a long day. If it were up to me, each day would have a few extra hours... I wonder if that would be enough.
