Recently discovered: the new "Flex Scape" from Oakley
With "Flex Scape", Oakley presents a new, hybrid glasses and goggle model. Thanks to the special geometry of the lens, the glasses can be easily transformed and adapted to the environment. The glasses were recently presented to the public and immediately won an award.
"Flex Scape was designed with the aim of maximising the function of ski goggles and sunglasses. The clips on the frame are visual references to goggles from the past, interwoven with the interchangeable strap and sunglass temple mechanism." This is how George Yoo, head designer of the goggles, describes the basic idea behind Oakley's latest innovation. The "Flex Scape" was presented at the international sports trade fair ISPO in Munich at the end of November and was immediately honoured with an award.
The expert jury wrote: "The Flex Scape is not for everyone, but certainly for those who appreciate a progressive style with customisation options. Oakley skilfully combines extravagant design with comprehensive functionality to create a trendsetting piece that is sure to stand out."

Oakley uses physiomorphic technology
The centrepiece of the "Flex Scape" is the physiomorphic lens. It is Oakley's first hybrid eyewear that utilises the physiomorphic geometry of the lenses. According to the manufacturer, this is a technology that reproduces the structural properties of a normal frame, but offers unlimited possibilities for the design of glasses and lenses. And without the typical limitations of a normal frame.
"We haven't done a true temple-to-strap swap in the past, but we have had temples that attach to a strap. These tend to be bulky and feel like an afterthought. When we started thinking about how to convert the Flex Scape from goggle to sunglasses or something in between, we wanted it to feel like an Oakley product. Well-designed, robust, durable and with a simple and intuitive user interface," explains Casey Lee, Senior Design Engineer at Oakley.

The "Flex Scape" comes with either Oakley's Prizm Snow Sapphire lens or a Prizm 24k lens, which are tuned to specific wavelengths of light and their reflection in snow, improving contrast and clarity in different snow conditions. The lens has an anti-fog coating and protects against both impact and UV rays. The market launch is planned for October, when the new goggles will cost around 350 francs.
