Organic bike cleaner: the sustainable spring cleaning for the bike - and my conscience

What can the sustainable bike cleaner with Green Power foam from bio-chem do better than conventional cleaners? Actually nothing - it makes the bike clean. But in an environmentally friendly way.

Spring. Time to get the bike out of the basement or garage and ride out into nature. But before that, the bike needs to be cleaned. Dust from the Sahara recently covered my gravel bike like a film of golden powder. The fine sand from North Africa has not only made it to northwestern Switzerland, but also directly into my garage and onto my bike. At this sight, I briefly ask myself how this probably looks in my lungs. But that is another topic.

Speaking of nature

Until now I always had a bad feeling when I cleaned my bike after a ride. My wife would complain about the unpleasant chemical smell of the cleaning products in the garden behind the house. That was surely bad for people and nature.

So I looked for a product that would clean my bike without overly harming me and the environment around me. I finally ended up with the bike cleaner from the bio-chem brand.

According to the manufacturer, the product, which is made in Germany, is kind to the environment because only mild ingredients are used. According to its own information, bio-chem does not use aerosols, dyes, fragrances or harmful solvents. It is produced without animal testing and without microplastics. It is also vegan and the bottle is made from 100% recycled plastic.

This cleaner is suitable for all types of bikes and materials such as: Aluminum, carbon, chrome, stainless steel, paint, steel and powder coated surfaces. Everything can be cleaned, from the suspension fork, pedals, frame and tires to the saddle, gears, spokes and bottom bracket.

When the 750 milliliter bottle is empty, it doesn't just end up in the recycling bin. It is refilled again. Two variants are available here: the 1 liter and the 5 liter refill bottle.

Application

The application is simple: spray the cleaning agent, or the Green Power foam, as bio-chem calls it, on the bike, let it work for a few minutes, wash it off with water. Finished. And sure, Sahara dust is a different dirt league than mud and spun off chain oil. For such stubborn, the sponge or a brush comes into play. And you let the cleaner work for a few minutes longer.

By the way, it also adheres to vertical surfaces. Unlike many conventional products, the bio-chem Veloreiniger smells neutral, not unpleasantly chemical and it does not irritate the skin.

My impression: for a clean bike and conscience

Does the bike cleaner from bio-chem clean better than other products in this segment? No. Is the bike clean again after cleaning? Yes. From my point of view, there is no difference to the products from Motorex and Muc-Off, for example, which I have used to clean the dirt off my bike.

But now not only the bike is clean, but also my conscience. And that feels good.
