Oppo Switzerland gives up: No more new mobiles?

This announcement came as a surprise and a bit of a shock to many in the industry: Yang Technology AG is closing down immediately for economic reasons. It was the exclusive Swiss distribution partner for the Oppo brand. This closure comes shortly after the fourth anniversary of Oppo Switzerland. Around a dozen employees lose their jobs.

Oppo under pressure in Europe

What you need to know: Oppo has not built up its distribution network in Europe with its own subsidiaries, but has engaged distributors for each country. In Switzerland, a small organisation was set up especially for Oppo, which only looked after the brand and functioned as "Oppo Switzerland". Since the beginning of the year, Oppo devices have also been distributed by OnePlus. Together with Vivo and Realme, both brands belong to the BBK Electronics group from China, which is the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world.

In Europe, Oppo has been under heavy pressure since this year. As a result of a patent dispute with Nokia, the brand has withdrawn from Germany and other countries. In Switzerland, there was already a reorganisation at the beginning of the year. In addition, the general manager withdrew from the company for personal reasons around four weeks ago.

What does the withdrawal mean for Swiss customers?

In the press release, Oppo assures that customer service in Switzerland will continue to be available. When asked, Oppo's EU PR team clarified that the entire After Sales Service will be maintained. Operating system updates will also be available as promised. How long this will be the case depends on the device. For the latest foldable phone, the Find N2 Flip, it is four years.

Will Oppo and perhaps OnePlus disappear from the market altogether? While the press release from Switzerland sounds rather gloomy and suggests this conclusion, Oppo Europe leaves everything open when asked. "Oppo's commitment to the European market and users remains unchanged," it says. Innovative products and services will continue to be launched in Europe.
