Not caught in the net: Why this bag is totally impractical
I'm open to every fashion trend, but I can also admit to myself when something is no good at all. I understand the current mesh bag hype visually, but I can't feel it.
Admittedly, at first glance the new mesh bags are reminiscent of Grandma's Posti-Säckli. This brings back memories of my childhood, because I always liked to do "Kommissione" with her, as she used to say when buying groceries in Bernese German. I first came into contact with these funny net bags on the fruit shelf. I liked them straight away because you could tear them up so nicely.
Today, as a street style trend, they are a real eye-catcher that I like to take a second look at. If it weren't for the fact that they're absolutely no good as a handbag. Not only do I voluntarily flaunt all my bits and bobs like chapsticks and the like in them, but something is constantly falling out. This can lead to embarrassing situations like: "Oh dear, you've lost a tampon". [[image:16833739,16833790]] [[small:]]
My tip if you're still not dissuaded by this trend: Grab a mesh bag with an integrated inner lining. Or repurpose a toiletry bag as a "bag within a bag". This keeps keys and other small items safely stowed away. A glasses case will also do in a pinch. [[image:17074530]] Small knick-knacks are made rivet- and nail-proof in sleeves or cases.
Incidentally, I'm not alone in this opinion: my colleague Pia Seidel also recently fell for it. She bought a pretty model in Paris, which has only been used twice so far for the same reason. Even the chic transport (the bag has to be used for something) of a lunch box including a fork has failed: The cutlery kept tumbling out as we walked. But hey, why keep it simple when you can make it complicated? [[image:17067265]] So everything stays in. And no, the white thing is not a Womaniser, but a hand cream...
