Like Princess Leia: Pawned off to Jabba the Hutt

Are you familiar with the resale platform on Galaxus? Well you should be. With a heavy heart, I said goodbye to my Lego set. Much faster than I wanted to.

My love of Star Wars is great. But my power is weak. Two years ago, I bought myself the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars for roughly 150 francs. At the time, I got my hands on one of the last models in the sales.

And then the cursed thing ended up in the cellar. For a solid two years, it was sitting there in its original box in a Galaxus bag.

The Lego model 75105 consists of 1329 pieces. It could have been 47 cm long 32 cm wide. I would have hung it up at home or in the office where it would have dangled from the ceiling, held up by a few bits of fishing line, illuminated by a spotlight.

Only, I didn’t have the time.

A job for the galaxus.ch resale platform. And who better to ask for advice than the inventor himself? «Use the feature that makes the price drop automatically,» says CIO Oliver Herren. He also asks me to mention that warranty extensions increase the reselling value of products. Check!

Gone in a flash

I put the set up for resale on Sunday, 19 August. I’m a cheeky guy so the price tag is 170 francs. That’s more than I originally paid for it. I do this for multiple reasons. Firstly, Galaxus is going to pocket 12 per cent of the sales price. That leaves me with 149.60 francs. Secondly, sending the set by post in a large parcel will set me back an additional 9.70 francs. That leaves me with 139.90.

And thirdly, the set is being traded at this price on eBay. After all, Lego sets aren’t the worst kind of investment. Only a limited number of each model is produced, so they soon sell out. This increases their value each year. In any case, you should keep them in their sealed original box. Thankfully, I did.

Unfortunately, nobody’s biting at 170 francs. However, Oliver’s tip is proving itself. After a week has passed, the price is automatically lowered to 150 francs. A buyer, whom I’ve nicknamed Jabba the Hutt, must have had his eye on the product and goes in for the kill.

I must admit, I’m pretty impressed. I would never have thought that the Lego set would sell so quickly at a good price. Thanks to a dear colleague, I also save on postage. It turns out that he lives close to Jabba the Hutt and was nice enough to drop it off at his place. So 132 francs are transferred to my account. All things considered, I’ve made a minimal loss. So what.

Bye-bye Han Solo, Chewbacca, Rey, Finn, Lasu Leech, Kanjiklub Gang and Astromech droids from the BB-8 series. Serve your new owner loyally. As for you Jabba the Hutt, treat the Falcon with great care. Otherwise I’ll come knocking at your door with a lightsaber in hand. I know where you live!

If you have similar «treasures» sitting in your cellar, you can try to rehome them here: https://www.galaxus.ch/en/Resale. Find out how it all works here.
