More dynamics on the mountain, more agility on the trail, smoother running on the tour: this is what Bosch eBike Systems promises with the revised "Performance Line CX". The company launched the first version of its drive for e-mountainbikes in 2015.

For e-mountain bikers, it's not just performance data that is important, but above all the precise fine-tuning of the motor. It determines the fun factor on the trail. "With 85 Newton metres of torque, 600 watts of maximum power and up to 340 per cent support, the new Performance Line CX delivers the ideal balance of power, dynamics, efficiency and range," says Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems.

With its precise, sensitive response behaviour, the new drive unit allows sporty e-bikers to experience unique riding dynamics, Fleischer continues. Regardless of whether it's for sensitive starts on steep trails or powerful exits from bends.

Power, efficiency and range

According to the manufacturer, the power of the new "Performance Line CX" unfolds dynamically and precisely matched to the respective riding manoeuvre and follows the pedal input. Several high-performance sensors measure this precisely - more than 1000 times per second. These include a high-resolution cadence sensor and precise torque measurement technology.

Other sensors also measure acceleration and rotation rates in six dimensions and recognise inclination and tilt angles as well as vibrations. In this way, the e-MTB "knows" how steep the incline is and whether the rider is on a forest path or a root trail. The drive unit adjusts the power accordingly.

The sound of the trail, nothing else

Bosch has optimised the transmission of the new "Performance Line CX" with a view to achieving a good balance between power delivery, efficiency and noise development, according to a press release. For example, the external drivetrain (chain, chainring, cassette) is decoupled from the internal drivetrain (freewheel, gearbox, motor) when travelling downhill. This reduces the mechanical noise generated by comparable drive units on the trail.

According to Bosch, the weight of the "Performance Line CX" has also been reduced by around 100 grams compared to the previous version. The drive unit is also robust: the magnesium housing can withstand the toughest conditions. A black powder coating protects against stone chips, damage and corrosion.

More than the sum of the individual components

Bosch eBike Systems is building an E-MTB ecosystem with further innovations around the "Performance Line CX". These include revised batteries for long ranges, a range extender, the new "eBike ABS Pro" anti-lock braking system and the "eShift solution" presented in July with the first automatic derailleur system.
