Kassensturz test: stand-up paddles in comparison
Stand-up paddleboarding has enjoyed great popularity for some time now. If you also want to try this cool water sport, there are some valuable criteria that will prevent you from jumping into the cool water too much. The fact that your board is bad shouldn't be an excuse. The "Kassensturz" test report will tell you whether a rather mediocre performance is down to you or your board. The better the quality of the board and paddle, the better your performance will be.
The test
For the Kassensturz test on 27 June 2017, a seven-member jury spent a day putting inflatable stand-up paddles to the test on Lake Thun. The testers paid particular attention to the differences between the individual boards and paddles and gave them a score of 1-6 (6=very good, 1=very bad). Other criteria included how stable they are in the water, how they guide you and how easy they are to manoeuvre. From the impression of being on an air mattress to the feeling of standing on a surfboard, everything was represented.
The test criteria
- Inflation time and efficiency of the pump
- Connecting the paddles
- Quality of the operating instructions, especially safety instructions
- Paddling in the water and quality
- Dismantling and transport
We will now take a closer look at places 1, 2 and 4. As the "Bic Air (10')" SUP from 3rd place is unfortunately on sale, we won't go into more detail about it .
1st place, grade "good"
Indiana Inflatable Family Pack
You can paddle away like a world champion with this all-rounder board. It is quickly inflated, stable, guides you straight to your destination and is easy to manoeuvre. The set includes solid paddles that allow you to move forward with ease. The bag, in which you can stow the stand-up paddle and transport it home thanks to its small wheels, is also a particular success.
Unfortunately, the 10'6" test board is on sale, but don't panic, we have almost the same model for you. The Indiana Inflatable SUP is just a little longer (11'6"), otherwise everything remains the same.
- Paddles (40%): 5.4
- Paddle (20%): 5.0

2nd place, grade "good"
Fanatic Pure Air
With this manoeuvrable, stable board, you'll cut a fine figure. Although it is more suitable for short tours, it can be propelled purposefully thanks to its adaptable paddle. In the Kassensturz test, it was criticised that the paddle is not supplied as standard.
- Paddling (40%): 4.9
- Paddle (20%): 4.3
4th place, grade "sufficient"
Airboard Fun SUP
Because it is very light and not stiff enough, this board bends in the water. This makes it only suitable for advanced paddlers with good balance. Thanks to its lightness, you are much faster once you have your balance under control. The paddles are again included in the set. However, these will only provide you with limited support on your trip.
- Paddles (40%): 3.6
- Paddles (20%): 4.1
