Dishwasher-safe, antibacterial and resistant to odours and stains: stainless steel and titanium are said to be better chopping board materials than their wooden and plastic counterparts.

The Esmée brand offers a wide range of items for the home. For example, chopping boards for the kitchen: in addition to wooden versions, they are also available in stainless steel or titanium. Metal chopping boards are less common, but have their advantages. Three of them are now available in our new arrivals in the shop.

Two stainless steel chopping boards

If you use a wooden board like I do, you always have to clean it well after use and make sure that it doesn't stand in a puddle of water when drying. Otherwise it could swell or even go mouldy. Germ formation, stains from strongly coloured vegetables and odours are also a topic. Plastic boards, on the other hand, can cause microplastics.

According to the manufacturer, metal chopping boards solve all these problems. Antibacterial properties reduce the spread of germs that often settle in wood. The boards are also dishwasher-safe, resistant to food acids, odourless and robust. One disadvantage, however, is that softer blades dull more quickly when cutting. However, knives that are harder than the stainless steel board should stay sharp for longer, Esmée promises.

The stainless steel chopping board is now available in two sizes: 29 × 20 centimetres and 33 × 23.5 centimetres. These are new size variants of a stainless steel chopping board that is now no longer available. According to product ratings, customers who have purchased it are very satisfied with it.

Premium cutting board made from titanium

The titanium chopping board offers the same features as the stainless steel versions, but is even higher quality, Esmée promises. Titanium is lighter and even more robust. The manufacturer points out that the material is also used in medicine due to these properties, for example for prostheses.

The cutting board is also said to be more knife-friendly. Esmée promises a «special surface», on which few scratches form and which does not damage the knife.

We will be testing one of the chopping boards shortly. To make sure you don't miss the report, follow my colleague Stephan.
